Liberal idiots

Kind of redundant. TChris of TalkLeft:
The American Conservative sees in Palin what it once saw in George Bush: a regular person with strong traditional values who champions faith, limited government, and pro-life judges.
Uh, no. The American Conservative wasn't even founded until 2002 and it has always -- always -- been anti-Bush. I've written twice for TAC, and my first contribution in July 2004 was a report on how the "Texas Miracle" which Bush had supposedly wrought in public education (and thus, the model for No Child Left Behind) was in fact a mirage.

    NO IT WAS NOT!

Bush haters have much to pick from to ding W, but his success in Texas on education IS NOT ONE. I was there and voted for W in both gubernatorial elections. My son was in Texas public school for a while in the late 80's to early 90's and it was SO bad that I pulled him out and home schooled him through graduation.

By the time I left Texas in '99, the schools had improved dramatically as a direct result of the Bush reforms. The schools I observed first hand (I volunteered for over a year, staying in school EVERY SINGLE DAY with my son and working at night before home schooling) before Bush were riddled with gang strife, had teachers that refused to teach, and administration that refused to work with teachers or parents. After the Bush reforms gang activity was almost nil, most teachers were engaged and excited to teach, and administration was responsive to the needs and concerns of students, parents, and teachers. Most important, students were learning to read, write, and calculate. Most of my experience was in the El Paso, Ysleta, and Fabens school districts in the El Paso area.

There is a reason, actually a whole bunch of reasons, that Bush took 68% of the vote in '98; he accomplished what he set out to do by working with any and all honest leadership no matter the political bent. He promised tax reform, education reform, and to sign a concealed carry law with improvements to the CCW law as fast as he could get them through Texas' legislature (which only meets every other year).

He delivered. He signed the CCW law and it has been drastically improved since. Education WAS improved beyond the wildest dreams most of us parents had, and state taxes were reduced.

Whatever the complaints you have with W as President, you can't legitimately complain about his time as Texas governor. His administration was successful in every aspect, from advancing the quality of Texans' lives to sweeping in GOP candidates across the board. We need more governors that can accomplish the things that Bush did in Texas.

When I see guys like you complain about what Bush did in Texas, and I remember how things were BEFORE the improvements Bush was responsible for implementing, it makes my blood boil. I saw what things were like first hand. You guys pick nits from afar. I was proud to vote twice for W in Texas and then twice for President.
