The Osmond factor

Mike Huckabee has Chuck Norris. John McCain has Sylvester Stallone. What's next in the "celebrity-endorser death match"? Mitt Romney deploys ... Donny Osmond:
Last May, Georgia’s Secretary of State Karen Handel had a leisurely, get-to-know-me session with a visiting Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor. . . .
Handel wondered out loud whether Romney knew Donny Osmond, who was rumored to live in Utah. He said, yes, he knew the family. . . .
She still suffers from puppy love.
She has “The Best of Donny Osmond” on her iPhone.
“It is a specific age group. It’s for those of us who are between 40 and 48,” Handel explained. . . .
The next month, Handel found a follow-up conference call with Romney on her calendar.
“The phone rings, and it was ‘Hi, Karen, this is Donny,’ ” Handel recounted.
“Donny who?”
“Donny Osmond.”
Handel confirmed widespread reports that teenage-style screaming echoed through the state Capitol. But she says the conversation itself was a blur.
Hey, Mitt: Any chance you could line me up a phone call from Marie? Or just e-mail me the digits and I'll make the call myself.

Linked by Don Surber, who apparently doesn't want a phone call from Marie.

UPDATE 7:30 a.m.:
In case anyone's forgotten, let me remind you that the Osmonds actually produced some excellent Motown-influenced power pop:
